Texas Import Rage
River City Raceway, San Antonio, TX

RX7.COM brings it home for the Texas locals.

Courtesy of Matt Hine...www.hine.cxAfter four weeks of strait out of town racing, team RX7.COM got to do one for the locals. Texas is a hot bed for import racing and has been hungry to add some new venues. One of those is this year's inaugural Texas Import Rage at River City Raceway(near San Antonio). This was our first trip to this particular track and was quite impressed by how clean and well equipped it is.

First thing on our minds was whether the event would make or not. As can be imagined, we now have a deep seeded paranoia about mother nature rearing her ugly head once again and drenching yet another event out. Fortunately, not this time around. Even with high probabilities of rain, it just didn't happen and the event went on without a hitch.

All the Austin/San Antonio locals came out in force. Mohammed with MZM performance rolled out the red carpet and showed us the best Austin had to offer. Others like Aaron Imler, Curtis Jeffers and many more came out to show, watch or participate. Since this is an inaugural event, this was a smaller venue. Nonetheless, the ¼ mile is always the same… Our intent was to dominate the only import quick class advertised. Unfortunately, some last minute rule changes divided the rear-wheel drive cars from the front-wheel drives. This made our only serious competitor Steve Kan's 1993 street car. Steve ran into some technical problems midday by breaking his drivers side axle shaft. With some quick "fenagling" at the trailer, a pair of racing axles replaced his 90K+ heavily stressed originals.

Courtesy of Matt Hine...www.hine.cxQualifying rounds went well and allowed us some time to dial in new tires and other combinations. Ari's best qualifying pass came to 9.82 sec @146 mph and guaranteed us #1 qualifier. Steve Kan was #2 with 10.7 sec @ 135 mph. The RWD class ended up having only six competitors. This meant Ari and Steve both would have a buy run for the first round. Second round found Ari vs. an Eagle Talon and Ari prevailed with a 10.11 sec @ 141 mph. Final elimination pitted Ari vs. Steve, which was no surprise. Both are quite familiar with being paired up together. The final round proved to be quite exciting. Steve made a little too perfect launch with a reaction time of .4995 and caught a red light. Both Ari and Steve knew the race was now won, but in great sportsman style they ran the distance. The final outcome was close at the 1320 mark. Steve ran a 10.43 sec @ 131 mph besting his previous personal record and Ari reeled in a 9.73 sec @ 146 mph. It was a great spectacle for the fans and racers both. Congratulations to Ari in continuing the RX7.COM Y2K domination.

We'd like to thank as always the locals for being so hospitable. The RX7 club and MZM crowd was simply great. We'll look forward to a bigger and even better event next year.
