Flaco! Flaco! Flaco!

SEMA : Abel's RX-7

Debuted at last year's show, the incredible Flaco Racing Pro Import RX-7 was on hand again at the NOS booth. As shown on the cover of the November Turbo Magazine, this RX-7 produces an amazing 798 Rear Wheel HP propelling it into the 7's. Running methanol on a Motec controlled 2-rotor 13B-REW engine, driver/owner Abel Ibarra is looking to make a strong showing in the Pro Import class with this car next year. With Abel's track record and experience, he's definitely capable of it. Abel's previous car, the famous 8.0 second red R100 was heavier and not as advanced as the new FD bodied car. With this newer technology, better power to weight ratio, and Abel at the wheel this is going to be the car to watch next year.

Unlike Ford though, Mazda still isn't directly involved with drag racing. Due to the high expense involved in building and racing cars at this level, it's becoming harder and harder for die hard rotary racers like Abel and others to compete with factory backed and highly sponsored teams. If you, or someone you know, is interested in helping with keeping the rotary in the forefront of racing feel free to contact us and we can get you in contact with Abel as well as other racers who could use your help. Obviously if big companies like Ford are taking Import Drag Racing serious, shouldn't you??
